José María Hernández Maíllo was born in San Sebastián in 1957. A self-taught and versatile artist, during his artistic career he has cultivated different disciplines (painting, sculpture, engraving, drawing and installations) and techniques.

His work includes natural landscapes, some on large canvases, of the Mallorcan mountains and coasts; the "Plexos" series, consisting of a network of lines, the result of impulsive-obsessive gestures; the "Tizas" series; the folders of engravings, in which he captures the landscape of his surroundings and the movements of the human body; the erotic sculptures, and the sculptures that simulate architectural models.

He had several solo exhibitions in his hometown and in Palma, where he lived between 2000 and 2018. His works in collaboration with other artists include the frescoes on the ceiling of the arcades of the Plaza de Justicia in Tolosa (Guipúzcoa).

As a person, he stood out for his authenticity and humanity. His works, executed with precision and sensitivity, are a demonstration of his love and passion for nature and life.
